Company History
Overview
Nimon and Sons passenger transport company was established in 1905, taking over a business established in 1874, and is still owned today by the Nimon family.
It is based in Whakatu, Hawke’s Bay where its main office, depot, and workshop facilities are located. There are additional depots in Napier and Taupo. The Company operates a fleet of around 100 vehicles in a variety of capacities.
It operates in three main sectors:
- Coach tours and charter services
- School student transport services
- Private contracts for staff transport
Track Record
The track record of Nimon and Sons over the last 100 years is well known and documented.
We have extensive school bus contracts with the Ministry of Education and schools with whom we have had an association for over 60 years. We have contracts with private companies for the supply of staff transport in the Napier & Hastings area, and our coach fleet undertakes tours and travel New Zealand wide.
The Company is believed to be the oldest established passenger service operation under continuous private ownership in New Zealand.
Technical Skills/ Personnel Resources
Nimon and Sons Ltd has a fully fitted heavy-vehicle workshop maintaining the bus and coach fleet to better than Certificate of Fitness standards. A wide range of work is carried out on both the company’s own vehicles and for outside customers.
A 24 hour workshop call-out service is operated. We are an approved Warrant of Fitness testing centre.
Workplace Training and Assessment is provided within the company to NZQA standards, enabling our drivers to excel at their job.
Company Accreditation Status
Nimon and Sons Ltd holds a current Transport Service Licence, as well as a Vehicle Rental Licence, these satisfying legislative requirements for us to operate our business.
Additionally, the Company is a member of the Bus and Coach Association of NZ, Tourism Industry Association of NZ, and is ‘Qualmark’ endorsed to ensure our customer-care systems are world-class.
